Eight members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly who resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in early October have agreed to return to the party after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, led by Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle.
The lawmakers met Tinubu on Sunday night at the Presidential Villa. They were led by Matawalle, a former Zamfara governor, and accompanied by House of Representatives member Aminu Sani Jaji. Following the meeting, the legislators resolved to remain in the APC and support the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The group includes Aliyu Ango Kagara (Talata Mafara South), Ibrahim Tukur Bakura (Bakura), Faruk Musa Dosara (Maradun I), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), Muktaru Nasiru Kaura (Kaura North), Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North), Bashar Bello (Bungudu West) and Bashar Aliyu (Gummi I).
The minister, Dr. Matawalle had pledged to integrate the lawmakers into the Tinubu Again Movement, a campaign structure supporting the president’s reelection bid and other APC candidates. The development comes as the APC works to consolidate its position in Zamfara ahead of 2027, following Governor Dauda Lawal’s earlier defection from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling party and a public reconciliation with Matawalle.
